Hi, I’m Marcos.

Marcos is a Community Organizer of 9 years, and would like to state that, especially today, they love Queer people. Currently based in Brooklyn, NY, they have organized in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania and New York. They have organized in rural counties of 10,000 people, and metro areas of 10 million. Marcos is immensely proud to have been part of ushering in new energy efficiency policies, protecting against climate change, fighting for education funding, empowering youth community leaders, protecting abortion rights and electing progressive candidates at all levels across the country.

In 2021, Marcos, as Director of Organizing at a small nonprofit in Kansas, was introduced to Deep Canvassing, and it has defined their career ever since. After crafting the field program that played an indelible role in successfully protecting abortion rights in the state, they’ve gone on to author Deep Canvassing programs across the country.

At a time where the future looks uncertain, Marcos believes Deep Canvassing is the innovative new organizing technique our politics need to meet this moment. As one of the more qualified individuals to speak on Deep Canvassing in the United States, Marcos is passionate about spreading knowledge, and helping local organizers build Deep Canvassing programs across the country, particularly in rural areas, for an affordable and transparent rate, as far as Google Meets will let him.

What is Deep Canvassing?

Deep Canvassing is the revolutionary new conversational technique that capitalizes on what we already love most about organizing - real, community connections.

In 2008, California passed Proposition 08 banning gay marriage in the state. David Fleischer and his friends at the LA LGBT Lab were stunned by this electoral result, so they did what any organizer would - put on their boots and went out into the community.

They knocked on doors and purposefully talked to people who voted for Proposition 08. They knew they wouldn’t get anywhere by judging these voters, so they didn’t. They earnestly asked these voters why did they vote for Prop 08? What were their thoughts on gay marriage? Did they know anyone LGBTQIA+ identifying?

They found when they didn’t engage the conversation with judgment, when they earnestly listened, introduced themselves as LGBTQIA+ people in the community, connected to people on a values level, gave people the space to process biased arguments, and the space to adopt a position that aligned more with their values, those conversations worked, and they worked tremendously.

The results of that impressive experiment came to be known as Deep Canvassing. Deep Canvassing has been shown, time and time again, to reduce biased arguments, allow people to grow an immunity to biased arguments and propaganda, grow the progressive base, and meaningfully grow community connection.

In 2021, David Fleischer went on to coach a scrappy young Organizing Director on how to author a Deep Canvassing program specifically tailored to protecting abortion rights in the state of Kansas. That organizer was our Founder, Marcos Descalzi, and their program successfully contributed to winning a ballot measure to protect abortion rights in deeply conservative Kansas, by 18 points.

Once you and your team understand the fundamentals of Deep Canvassing, your organizing will never be the same.
3 hours of instruction spread over 2 separate trainings - Deep Canvassing 101 and 102.

Advanced Deep Canvassing Courses

Dive even deeper into the theory of Deep Canvassing so you can develop your own programs.
2 1-hour sessions, you can sign up for the Deep Canvassing 103 course, or both the 103 and the 104.
$200 per hour, per organization.
Custom Scripts and Slide Presentations

Trying to pressure an elected official? Pass a ballot measure? Elect a candidate? We will write a 6-page, 6-step Deep Canvassing script for you, or tailor our instruction courses specifically for your team.
$100 per script, $75 per presentation.
Strategy Coaching

Your team of Deep Canvassers are ready to talk to community members - but where should they start? Schedule time with us to look over data, share tips and tricks from Marcos’ organizing career, and craft a strategy, led by community members, that will utilize Deep Canvassing to supercharge outreach and hit the goals your boards, teams and communities need.
1 hour meetings, unlimited amount - as many as you need.
$150 per hour, per organization.
Other Services

Once Marcos has completed a request for a client, they will reach out to meet quarterly to check on progress, see how you’re doing, and inquire about any other needs.
If prices are not feasible for your organization at this time, please ask about a discount. Our goal is to spread this knowledge far and wide; we want to help however we can.

We believe the most effective outreach strategies are the ones developed by the community. After completing the Essentials Course, Marcos will offer to meet with your organization for a complimentary strategy session, with the goal of developing a “test run” of your Deep Canvassing program to meet your needs.
Attendees are capped at 30 people per training. Extra fees applied depending on how many Program Leaders are working with us, the population size of the area you are serving, and whether or not you are working in a Swing State - please inquire for more details.
